ELECTRIC POWER QUALITY
Full Marks—70
Time: 3 Hours
Answer Question No. I which is compulsory and any five from the rest.The figures in the right-hand margin indicate marks.
1. Answer the following questions: 2 x 1O
a) When the power quality problems occur?
b) Mention two necessities of power quality.
c) Write down the concepts for losses reduce the efficiency.
d) What is power conditioning equipment? Mention four of it.
e) Differentiate between low frequency and high frequency transients.
f) What is multi resolution analysis?
g) Define STFT and write its necessity.
h) How Kalman filter differs from FIR filter? Define the gain matrix.
I) Why UPS ¡s suitable than CVT?
j) Which filter is suitable for harmonic cancellation?
2.
a) With suitable examples explain the causes of power quality problems. 5
b) How CT and PT are used for measurement of errors? 5
3.
a) Write and explain the steps for power quality evaluation. 5
b) Exp1in the classification of power quality disturbances using ANN. 5
4. Find the error covariance propagation, which describes the effects of time on the Covariance matrices of estimation errors. How time can be updated, derive it. 10
5. Explain the principles of protection with neat sketch. What are the solutions at End-user level? 10
6. Derive the reliability factors in utility context. 10
a) Differentiate between voltage distortion and current distortion. 5
b) Explain the view on Harmonics versus Transients. 5
7. Write short notes on any two: 5x2
a) Switching transient problems with loads.
b) Performance of active filters
c) Ferro resonance
d) Computer tool for harmonic analysis.
e) THD.
